Luck
I am my own man and I make my own luck...
- American Authors

Luck is mysterious, something we can't quite understand.
Is it a charm, a prayer, a good upbringing, connections, money?
Maybe if I'd just remembered to wear my lucky socks,
That job interview might have gone better.

No, such magical thinking is absurd, dangerous, silly.
It removes my responsibility as a human to improve myself.
Superstition is closely related to practicing black arts;
If I believe control is beyond my power,
I then seek to control the controllers. Therein lies an untold abyss.

As OneRepublic reminds me, though controversially, “God only helps those
Who learn to help themselves…”
It's not entirely wrong to say that.
Raw confidence or positive thinking means little without skills or knowledge.
Apathy is believing good luck will befall me like a shipload of treasure
Without my having to lift a finger.

Faith means being brave enough to take action, knowing
God is on my side and whatever happens is for the best.
Sometimes action over apathy is as simple as learning
How to answer life's questions before they're asked.
