What if?

What if the Egyptian mythos of Osiris had a basis in a story that occurs throughout the multiverse? The Osiris device was created to create, destroy and manipulate realities, making it incredibly powerful. Those involved in the creation were Isis and Set.

Set decided that the potential that Osiris presented for misuse was too great, and so destroyed it, by dividing it into many pieces and spreading them throughout the multiverse. Each piece is still powerful, and had been instructed to conceal itself. One such piece is on earth.

There are people looking for the pieces. They aren’t human, and they cannot even exist in this reality without using a human as an ‘anchor’. Each one uses someone as an agent to fetch and carry for them. Each of these entities seems to be in competition with the others. It is not clear whether they are good guys or bad guys, as they don’t explain more than they have to. They don’t if they can avoid it come into direct conflict with each other. They will however try to remove the other entities anchor, which banishes them from the reality for a period, till they can secure a replacement.

One of the entities is Mr. Moonlight. He is, unknown to himself, using the actual thing that he’s seeking as an anchor, the device is disguised as a human, and is therefore indistinguishable from a real human. The reader will not be made aware of this fact. Moonlight is drawn to a casino and hotel called ‘The Osiris’ – in Las Vegas. He learns that there has recently been discovered an unopened sarcophagus, and believing it to likely contain the piece of device that he’s seeking, causes it to be brought to the hotel as a tourist attraction.

Maria Guadalupe Herrera is working as a taxi driver to pay for her PhD in Egyptology, making her an ideal anchor for Moonlight. As she interacts with Moonlight, Madam Valise and Lafayette Kouri-Vini, Maria’s hidden side as a piece of the Osiris device is awakened. Kouri-Vini first notices this, and because of his mischievous nature, helps conceal it from the other two agents.

Moonlight manages to bring the sarcophagus to the hotel, and the three agents are present for the opening, though Kouri-Vini knows it’s not what they are looking for. He has been trying to persuade Maria that he’s on her side, explaining what she is – why she doesn’t know what she is, making himself appear helpful.

Maria wants to know how many other pieces have been found, and by who. She also wants to know where they are. She learns that Isis is seeking the pieces of the device, and has accumulated the majority of the missing pieces, Kouri-Vini tries to convince Maria that he is a representative of Isis, which might even be true.
