Outlining Strategies
A traditional outline format with bullet points, numbers/letters, or chapters.
Index cards (paper or electronic) which can be easily shuffled to change scene order later.
The Snowflake Method.
Use one of the following story models as a fill-in-the-blank outline template:
          The Five-Point Story Structure.
          The Eight-Point Story Structure.
          The Hero's Journey Story Structure.
          Any other appropriate model.


Plot Outline

Exposition

A young woman, called The Chosen, is set upon a quest because of a centuries old prophecy finally coming true. She begins with a friend and the son of the noble town witch. After a life of training, the small group ventures out, making friends, discovering the underworld Vala is a lot more complex and complicated than originally believed.

Rising action

Ripples have begun, weird happenings, such as a noble woman gone missing from the neighboring kingdom and a minor demon was thought to have been seen around where she had gone missing. Which leads Lady Althena to call the Queen. Adelaide is brought to Lady Althena's villa, where the plan is set. They must find out about these minor demon, where it came from, and where the noble woman has gone to.

Climax

On the way to fighting the big bad, the one who sent the minor demon, Adelaide must stop at the River Passea to get her final piece, the lost magic of Dominique. She must swim through the river of the dead and cross into the underworld of Vala to get it. Only the Chosen can make this journey and survive. Unfortunately, we find out that Adelaide, for all of her training, is not the Chosen and dies and is rejected.

Falling action

After the River Passea rejects Adelaide and sends her body back to the shore, her friends carry back the body. Unfortunately, there is a newcomer, someone who sends a bit about what the future holds. They send a few minor demons for their troubles. Tired, achey, and overcome with emotion, they continue their journey back which they had come.

Resolution

When they get back and inform Lady Althena of the news about Adelaide, she reveals that Adelaide was a twin and that she is on Earth, a different realm from theirs for her protection. Lady Althena believes that Adelaide's death is her fault and should the world succumb, it would be because of her misreading of the Prophecy. Then plans are made to bring Adelaide's twin to their realm as quickly as possible, because things have already begun.
