ODE TO YOU?

If the sky were slightly bluer it would match your eyes,
If the wind were slightly softer it would feel like a caress from you,
If the sun were slightly brighter it would match the brilliance of your smile,
If the day were slightly longer I would use the hours to love you.

But the sky is pale compared to you, the wind pushes against my face sharply,
The sun burns my skin with its heat, the day is much to short for me.
You pass me on the street, leaving me wondering if you know my name,
You pass me on the street, showing that we will never be.

I thought of you today, again, and wondered where you were,
I thought of you again today, and spent my time dreaming of your kiss,
If you knew how I felt would it change anything, would your eyes remain bluer than the sky?
If you knew how I felt would I need to imagine the wind as the caress I miss?

I should move on, I guess, I should let go and choose another to fill my life,
I should move on, I imagine, I shouldn’t let you get to me like you do,
Yet I can’t help but wonder how it would feel to have you love me,
I can’t help but wonder if I could ever fall out of love with you.

Why shouldn’t I have you for my own, why shouldn’t you love me deeply?
Why shouldn’t I see your smile, love your laugh, touch your face?
Because you are not mine to love, because you never will be,
Because you do not know my name, because my obsession is my own disgrace.

What is this, this poem I wrote? It’s an Ode To You,
Ah, you say, an ode to me. Yes, an Ode To You,
But as I sit here and type these words I wonder if you deserve them,
I wonder, do you deserve this Ode To You?
