When I pursued that man,
I knew better.
I knew that it was not God’s plan.

Through many changes I went
Because I didn’t wait for the husband,
that was God sent

I believed that I knew it all
Ignoring His plan
And surely the relationship took a fall

Ungodly temptations blinded my view
And all too soon
My tribulations were anew

Soon I was deep in the throes of despair
Wondering if love was for me
Believing that no one gave a care

My nights were full of fear,
Sobbing and praying
For someone to hold me near

Never did I ask for His hand to lead
Believing that I was unworthy
Because I did not take heed

The relationship got even worse
Only mean and evil words
My ungodly lover would disperse

Day and night we would fight
Until finally I asked
“God, would you show me the light?”

God took my hand and led the way
He replaced my darkness
With a brighter day

Sugaree, just one more su-ga-ree time, again...
