Toilet Revolution!
11-19-04

So supposedly in China, the "traditional" public bathrooms have squat-style pits as toilets with no running water, toilet paper or basins to wash hands. Basically, you bring your own paper and squat over a trench and do your business. Every person for him/herself.

But now, city officials in Beijing want to clean up the image in time for the 2008 Olympics and hygiene experts from around the world have gathered in Beijing for the fourth annual World Toilet Summit.

Oh boy.

They say that this "toilet revolution" will hopefully fill the people with a brimming pride and will work to preserve their spanking new latrines.

Oh boy, Oh boy.

Well, um, I guess I can only say "It's about time!" Hopefully, these new restrooms will be put to, uh, good use and tourists will enjoy this new Chinese beauty.

"The world deserves better toilets," said Jack Sim, founder of the World Toilet Organization, which co-sponsors the summit. *Smile*

Mmhmm. Bravo! Vive le Toilets!
