You are responsible for getting your port viewed and your items read. No one else can do it for you; unless you're lucky enough to have it sponsered. Most of us have to sponser our own work. Being active in the forums will get your name known, and that will help. Plug your work often. There are numerous review forums. Use them! Reviewing others will often mean return reviews, but don't depend only on them. I notice newbies who are actively reviewing because they are in the place I spend my time. You don't have to review hundreds of items to get noticed, you only need to be active. A Tip for giving a critique: When giving your critique, start with a positive general overview before moving on to matters which you feel need improvement. Be nice. A Tip for accepting a critique: Don't take critiques too personally. Be positive - they're free and they'll make you a better writer! If you receive a negative comment, try to remember how you felt about books you've read which didn't meet your expectations. Critiques will help you improve your story. If no one is noticing your work, ask yourself; How long has it been since I advertised it? Readers can't find your work if it stays inside your port. It must be out and about on forums and genre lists. Shyness won't make it here, you must toot your own horn! Be confident in yourself and keep practicing your writing! ** Image ID #715135 Unavailable ** HAPPY BIRTHDAY WRITING.COM! ** Image ID #884158 Unavailable ** My Picks For Newbies of the Month for September Mitch has already reviewed almost 300 items and has 28 items in his port! Not bad for a newbie, huh? He writes good too. JOE Joe is an excellent writer. It would be worth your time to read his work. enathan1085 Nathan writes wonderful nature imagery. He's had few reviews, which is sad, because these scenes could be on winter greeting cards! kathl Kath has a mixture of wonderful poetry and short stories.

A ton - wow! 'No More Oreos' has 88 reviews. I've stopped reviewing. I signed up not long ago -- tried to jump in and become active, only to realize the only thing people seem to review is poetry and I don't write poetry. Each of my items had 2 reviews or less and those were from people I begged to sign up and read them, with the exception of Suze who is amazing both as a reviewer and an author. When I did review others, I rarely received any feedback from the reviews or received rude comments back anytime I pointed out how I saw things, even though I honestly felt I gave decent reviews. I haven't given up on writing, but I've given up on reviewing. I'm sorry you've given up on reviewing! I've found it to be the most helpful tool I could use to improve my own writing. And, it's free! I hope you find this newsletter especially helpful and timely. Plug and request reviews often. Submitted By: afamwriter-PEN=MAGIC WAND Submitted Comment: Thank you for noticing me, Esprit.
