PAIN OF OLD AGE
PAIN OF OLD AGE

[The aches and pains, physical and mental, of old age]

Where do I take this pain of mine?
It can’t be eased by scream and shout.
Though I smile there is nothing left
In life to be happy about.

My body is weak and infirm.
My memory is going down.
My wife is no longer with me.
My children are not in the town.

I live in the home for aged,
Life inside which is truly weird,
With not a soul to share a thought,
With no one to exchange a word.

Now all that I see is clouded.
I cannot hear when someone talks.
My legs are shaky, I fall down.
I can’t go out for evening walks.

This pain of mine I’ll take with me
To my grave on the final day.
I’ll lay it at the feet of Lord.
Till then I’ll tolerate and pray.
