I shall be coming in here to record some impressions and thoughts. |
Social Emancipation In India Let me first state the purpose of this write-up. I will try and dissect what the social situation is like in India and try and enumerate the problems that we face as we take on Eastern giants like China and Japan on the one hand, and the mightier USA, UK and other developed western countries on the other. If this item turns out well, I will assign it a new item number and put it up separately in the Articles/Essay folder. As a person well into his forties, I have seen a lot. As an underprevileged child, I grew up with unrealised ambitions and unfulfilled desires. As a young man, I was somewhat more adventurous, but as I was financially no better, I was still viewing the society from the same angle as when I had as a child seen it. Recent years have taken me further ahead on the financial scale. Although I am by no means rich, at least I am much better off than before. Hence I am now able to view the problem from both sides - that is, I have a balanced view of things. So let me first enumerate the problems. We still have a backward mentality. We discriminate on the basis of caste and religion. We prefer male children over female ones right from conception to birth to childhood. We are satisfied with primary education, incomplete education and simple graduation. We are equating money with happiness. We still revere white skin. We are physically unfit. We believe strongly in Fate and Destiny. We ignore the poor and are only concerned with our own selves. We are a highly corrupt nation. We are obsessed with Pakistan. Having listed these problems, let me go on and explain these in more detail. - ##Dr.Taher## |
