Walking to grocery store for smokes after midnight, Friday
We walked side by side,
holding hands, although
the arm by your side swung
less than the arm outside. Peach
vodka, gin with a twist of lime,
and driving anywhere--
we thought the better of it.
Still, I needed smokes, so you
came along. It's not so far away,
after all. After midnight, not much
traffic, and only half a mile
to the store. Half a mile, full
of less lit spaces, headlights
interrupted us only once.
What will the neighbors think?
Nevermind, let's have another drink.
