A new year is coming approaching. January 1, 2006 A.D. is not the new year I celebrate. I celebrate Naw-Ruz, which occurs on the spring equanox. Naw-Ruz is an ancient new years celebration that both The Bab and Baha'u'llah confirmed. The Baha'i calender began in 1844 when The Bab declared his mission. The Baha'is celebrate Naw-Ruz as the beginning of the Baha'i year. Naw-Ruz is one of the nine Holy Days Baha'is celebrate during the year. Naw-Ruz occurs either on March 20 or March 21 depending on when the equanox occurs. Today we celebrate March 21 as Naw-Ruz. The Baha'i day is a solar day, which is from sunset to sunset. So Naw-Ruz celebrations are usually held on the evening of March 20 after sunset. I do not make New Years Resolution on January 1. What I do is look to see what I need to change or want to accomplish in the coming year. However, this year I am starting early to consider what I need to change or discard all together. Maybe it is because I have a birthday coming up on December 24, maybe I going through another midlife crises, I do not know I just know that I need to make some changes. Or maybe I just have the nine year itch. Someone once told me that a person should change the furniture in their house every nine year, perhaps I need to change some of my mental and spiritual furniture. See what I need to do to become a more spiritual person. |
