I just read an article titled “Black Jesus film preaches politics over religion” (see http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060119/film_nm/arts_jesus_black_dc ).

I have to admit I wouldn’t mind seeing this movie, if for no other reason it would challenge my own conceptions of Jesus and His life. I’ve always been curious about how other people perceive Jesus. He is such a complex figure no matter if you think Jesus was the Son of God, or merely a man who had a great impact on history.

I especially liked the quote by the director, Mark Dornford-May, “We have to accept that Christ has been hijacked a bit -- he's gone very blonde haired and blue-eyed. The important thing about the message of Christ was that it is universal. It doesn't matter what he looked like.”

I couldn’t agree more with that statement. Sometimes we do create (or at least imagine) God in our own image. But that’s normal, I think, because we want to believe in a God who understands and can relate to us, and that includes His physical appearance as being similar to our own.
