The Dried Rose

As a sign of friendship,
You get a rose,
A smile on each of your lips,
As your friendship grows.

To keep it forever,
You hang it to dry.
Until now you thought you'd never,
Have to say good-bye.

Now, years have passed,
And you begin to remember,
How your friendship has lasted,
Throughout many Decembers.

The rose, once fresh and new,
Now dried upon your shelf,
Shows how your friendship grew,
Even more when you were apart.
