Here’s a word: logorrhea By definition the word logorrhea means excessive talkativeness. Expanded definition of logorrhea: Excessive talkativeness, especially when the words are uncontrolled or incoherent, as is seen in certain psychiatric illnesses. (Maybe we have a bunch of elected officials inflicted with an undiagnoised psychiatric illness wherein one of the symptoms is logorrhea.) When I look at the word, logorrhea, I realize it reminds me of another word that describes a certain sexually transmitted disease. (That’s a mental picture I don’t need. I certainly hope that logorrhea isn’t contagious.) Words entice me. As a young teenager, I’d wield words at anyone who annoyed me – mostly the annoying anyone was usually any adult who claimed to have any kind of authority over me. Back then a dictionary was my best friend. Since I’ve grown older, I’m trying to learn to be a gentler, kinder soul, especially towards those who I deem hopelessly ignorant, and content to remain so. The truth of the matter is there’s an abundance of hopeless, ignorant souls in residence on our planet, more today than at any time before, and unfortunately most of them seem to be employed as public servants, and major news media darlings. I still love words. |
