SHADOW OF LOVE


I am tired of wandering
Aimlessly in the world,
Waiting for strangers to say
A sympathetic word.

I have been cheated by all.
I don’t know whom to trust.
Though I sought love everywhere,
I found nothing but lust.

I was pounced upon by hawks,
I was but a mere dove.
I found cruelty covered
By a shadow of love.

Now that I have come so far,
Away from youthful dreams,
Even the concept of love,
So artificial seems.
