WHEN TIME IS UP: a sonnet
WHEN TIME IS UP: a sonnet
When time is up and the curtain is down
And exit from the world is what is due;
Shall I walk down the path having a frown?
Or, shall the fate that befell me I rue?
Shall I lament that I could not enjoy,
What like a honey bee I gathered hard?
Of prolonging life shall I think some ploy?
Shall I try once again a tarot card?
No I shall thank the Lord he gave me all
That I needed in generous measure.
I shall not heed the greedy Satan’s call,
Who wants me to incur His displeasure.
Happiness can never be invented.
It comes itself when we are contented.
