For this week's review assignments in "Invalid Item" I was given a poem and a short children's story. I reviewed the poem, but when I started on the short story, I had to stop. It's not that I didn't like the story. I enjoyed it very much. But I also had a lot of suggestions and I just didn't have the energy to write them all down. Last night I told the moderator, jessiegirl, I needed a break. Even though one to two reviews a week isn't much, I'm tired of editing, whether it be my stuff or someone else's. I'm thinking my inner editor either just died, fell into a coma, or went on vacation. Regardless, I'm glad she's gone. Now I can concentrate on writing, and even better, I'm free to write crappy! I did feel guilty that I'm not reviewing as much as I'd like (or promised ), that is until I read Lauren Gale 's latest blog entry: "Invalid Entry" . Her thoughts echo perfectly how I feel about reviewing and WDC in general. So instead of trying to either steal her words or attempt at better eloquence, I refer her to you. I do want to add, though, I love the new WDC reviewing tool! I usually give two types of reviews, one being through the BCEC ("Invalid Item" )and when I review on my own. For the BCEC, I need to use a different signature then when I do other reviews. This requires I use two different templates. I created both on my computer at home and I have that document up along side whatever I'm reading so I can jot my thoughts down as I go. With the new tool, I can create as many templates as I want adding in the neccessary images, WritingML tags, etc. Plus the reviewing tool is in a separate window so I don't have to use my word processor to add my comments. It has a character count tool at the bottom, and I can even save it as a draft before sending it out. This can be handy if for some reason my internet or WDC goes all finicky on me and I have to start over. |
