metered relief
Three guys in a black and flourescent orange golf-cart came and installed an "anti-terrorism water meter" (one that complies with the Patriot Act) at our house today. I can't tell you what a relief that is. No more sleepless hours spent sweating, tossing and turning, suffering nightmares involving hostage water meters. The guy in charge (the one who stood there, talking to me while two other guys did the work) explained that the federal government required cities and counties to install these meters if they wanted to keep getting a certain allotment of federal monies. Thank heavens our city wanted to keep getting their allotment, or we might have remained vulnerable to water meter terrorists.

I wonder who makes these Patriot Act compliant water meters? I should write them a thank you note...note...note... Oh yeah, they also left one of those notes that fits over a doorknob, explaining that the new water meters might cause a problem if the water heater doesn't have certain features, something about "expansion," and recommends having a plumber look at your water heater to make sure the new meter won't cause any problems.

All I can say is thank goodness the federal government thinks of these things.
