Memories of Growing Up in Oklahoma
10 Kamal 163 B.E. - August 10, 2006 A.D.
I remember growing up in Oklahoma,
the humidity,
the heat,
the Saturday nights when driving was so dangerous,
because we lived so close to the Kansas boarder -
because the the drinking age in Kansas was 18 and in Oklahoma 21.
I remember growing up in Oklahoma,
the thunderstorms,
the lightning storms,
the tornados,
huddling in a dark storm cellar
waiting for the all clear to sound;
avoiding the basement of Blackwell's city library,
during tornado warnings,
because of the of the glass windows that let light in on sunny days.
I remember growing up in Oklahoma,
being snowed in
for a day or two,
riding with my grandfather on icy roads
because the snow melted during the day and refroze at night;
on lane cleared on the interstate
with passing corridors at one or two mile intervals.
