IF I MUST GO
IF I MUST GO
If I must go then how shall I?
I don’t know but I hope,
My end may come in any way,
But never through a rope.
I don’t want to hang on gallows,
Publicly to be jeered.
Nor do I wish to hang myself,
And let my name be smeared.
I don’t mind dying of old age,
Or, maybe, of tumour.
I don’t mind if of poison I’m
Labeled as consumer.
But if you grant me my wish, then,
Only this I do ask:
Let me breathe my last when I am
Carrying out your task.
