Moments
Sometimes a quiet moment stretches out before you and becomes a sea of possibility. You want to react, but something inside you tells you to just wait...just to give things a bit more time. Sometimes, you see more, feel more in those few extra seconds and you are happy your heart urged you to be patient.
I had forgotten how wonderful the moon could look on an autumn night. Luminous and heavy, swollen beyond its limit with an impossible radiance. I sat on the porch steps, hugging my arms around my knees just staring up at it. I heard the voices inside, high tingling laugher, the occasional hoot and howl of the winning team. Another family game night was well underway. I felt only mildly guilty leaving my new friend alone with my very animated family members. He'd have to learn to navigate those waters eventually.
