A musical party, ekphrasis of van der Schoor's painting
** Image ID #1150221 Unavailable ** violet

A musical party?

         inspired by Elizabeth Schultz

They are family:
same nose,
same pursed lips,
same bubble chin;
their buoys bobbing above
the current shoreline of their blouses

Feathers,
roses,
pearls.

These adorn cherubic smiles
now long dead.

Look up!

I see a dance of hands.
(I cannot hear the music)

An example of ekphrasis, this poem is based on the painting "A Musical Party" (1657) by Abraham van der Schoor:

I made this a separate r/r item today: "Paper cutOpen in new Window.

My life

Met with Susan. We talked about embracing Fear *Shock*. But I still won't face the mirror ...

... might dance to some music though. Didn't do much today. Ate the meatloaf and potatoes that Sheryl Lynn kindly gave me at lunch. A personal touch matters to most folks, especially to me.

Around 80 today and muggy. The oak, ash and redbud seem to have made it through the freeze we had last month. Some trees still aren't looking good though and may not make it.

First peony! Last tulip?

IMAGES

Along 19th: Silky touch of orange poppies; pink horse-chestnut blossoms looking weary; the regrowth of redbud and ash; a curled leaf hanging from a spider thread.

At Dillon's:

leathery carapace of the tomatillo
waxy gloss of the Washington Red Delicious
rough net veins of the cantaloupes
smooth dull dust on the watermelon
zesty fragrance of scraping fingers on an orange
translucent paper of the onion: red, yellow, white
prickly fuzz of green-brown kiwi
bumpy hide of the pineapple
