I find it intriguing that Emerson's writing of his first volume of essays was as far removed in time from the American Revolutionary War as we contemporary writers are now from World War II. I'm not sure whether any particular parallels in belief exist, but it certainly would be motivating to research and proclaim some great truth about the human cycle of war and that which transcends war.
