Chapter Seven:

Michael, Jacob, Josh and Julie all went back to the station, and Kelly returned to the bank.
When she arrived there she saw Mark and Susan heading towards a room.
‘Hey! Wait up,’ she said jogging across the room.
‘Well?’ asked Susan ‘Did you get him?’
         ‘No’ Kelly sighed. ‘Wrong man.’
         Mark groaned. ‘Square one.’
         Kelly nodded.
‘Any way,’ said Susan, ‘we were just going to see the tape of our guy on the security camera.
         They entered the room
‘Okay, here we go,’ said Sharon, the manager, as the tape started
         ‘Huh?’ Sharon said.
         ‘What?’ said Mark.
‘This man, he was here yesterday.’
         ‘So?’
‘This is the end of the tape. The was no recording of today…’
         ‘Or the robbery,’ finished Susan
         Sharon nodded.
‘Who has access to this room?’
‘Um… security guards, me, Mr. Barns, the boss – he’s on holidays in Russia and a few staff, although any one could sneak in.’
Mark nodded. ‘Okay. We’ll go now. Thank you for your time.’
They walked out of the bank.
         ‘Now what?’ asked Kelly.
‘We tell the boss.’ Said Mark simply.
         ‘Not good.’
         ‘Bags not telling him.’

That night, it was Neil, Josh, Michael and Julie on duty.
‘Serge?’ Josh called. ‘A lady has reported her husband missing.
‘Great,’ said Neil sarcastically. When did she last see him?’
‘This night, when he went to the Buzzle’.
‘The Buzzle? Isn’t that a restaurant in Sladin?’
‘Yeah,’ replied Josh.
‘Is she still on the line?’
         ‘No.’
‘Well we’ll do something tomorrow, when everyone’s here.’
‘Should I go see her, while she still remembers things?’
         ‘Yep,’

Josh drove down to her house, and knocked on the door. No answer. He knocked again. Still no answer.
‘Mrs. Saletae?’ he called the ladies name. Still no answer.
‘Mrs. Saletae? This is the police,’ he called loudly. ‘Stand away from the door. I’m coming in’. He aimed a kick at the door, and kicked it open. He saw a lady standing by the door, which was now kicked in.
She had black hair, tied up in a ponytail. She was wearing a knitted jumper.
‘Mrs. Saletae?’ he asked. She nodded.
‘Why didn’t you answer the door?’ he asked.
‘I thought you were some else,’ she replied.
         ‘Like who?’ asked Josh.
         ‘Mr. Vonice,’ she answered.
‘Who’s he?’ Josh questioned. The owner of the Buzzle. It’s a restaurant.
‘What’s he got to do with it?’ Josh wanted to know.
‘He probably killed my husband. Erik’.

‘Hello, Mrs. Saletae,’ said Mark.
‘Hello,’ she replied.
‘Now, what did you say about Mr. Vonice killing Erik?’
‘Mr. Vonice has cockfights in his basement. When Erik found out, he was going to go to them, and try to stop them.’
‘Did you know they’re illegal?’ Mark asked.
‘What are? Cockfights?’
‘Yes,’
‘Oh my god! I never knew!’ she sobbed.
‘When I get a warrant, I’m going to find these cockfights,’ he said.
