DEAD FLIES

Do you know

The sound of your voice

Sends shakes throughout me

My heart palpitates faster

And I lose my grip

My mind shifts to excuses

Pleas of sympathy

And cries for reassurance

Although efforts are futile

And everything I say

Floats back to me

As if the words

Fell on your ears

Like so many dead flies

On a windowsill

And I feel about as helpless

As the hapless fly

Trapped and confused

With no place to go

My hopeless sobs

Reverberate back

Bounce off the shield

You've put up

To block me out

You've said the words

Bred in a malicious mind

Meant only to wound

And closed yourself off

Left me to fester

With the sores

You placed carelessly

On my heart that hurts already

Just knowing you think

I've screwed up again
