If you don't have a dream, how are you going to make a dream come true? |
You know what I'm tired of hearing from bands? "We need shows!!" or "Hey, book us some shows!!" They not only ask this of me (which is almost understandable. we're not a booking agent, but sort of similar in nature), but they ask this of their fans! Hey bands, book your own damn shows! Seriously, booking agents make money from booking shows, fans don't. They don't even get on the guest list half the time. Bands sometimes expect their fans to do all their booking, promotion, etc., and what do they give in return? /rant Sorry. Not all bands are like that! And in some ways, it makes sense. I've seen bands from other states who are trying to book tours ask people in other states to contact local venues to see if they could help book their shows. In that case, fans know where venues are, and bands might not. I just wonder how often that plea works. So, it looks like I'll be busy on September 8th. There's a teen battle of the bands (which I've dubbed "Battle at the Defender!"), with two bands signed up so far. The prizes for the winning band? (as printed on their flyer) 3 Hours recording session at C&C Recording Studio $50 Gift Certificate from Johnny Moratto's Music Tuner & Guitar Strings from Fulton's Music Cover feature in Word of Mouth Magazine Yay! The people hosting the event were very happy they could get such great prizes. I'm excited to see who wins! An article will also run in the local newspaper, so that's also free advertising for our magazine! |
