January's Temperament

White snow, drifting down.
Covering field, forest, town.
Over all, a blanket of white.
A soft coverlet to keep out the night.

Icy rain that swirls and storms.
Covers the trees in crystalline forms.
Winter has come but behind it is spring.
A time of new hope for what the year brings.
