Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
Meet me in Savannah, Hanna Meet me in Savannah, Hanna, make my heart atwirl. I sang, meet me in Savannah, Hanna, set your winds awhirl. Don't bring me any pain, sweet Hanna; I'll deal with the rain, old girl. You visited Bahama, momma, set their hearts awhirl. Gave a glance at Nassau, momma, winds and waves, you twirled. Brought them what I asked for momma, you naughty little girl! But you didn't show in Savannah, Hanna, no you didn't show. I wailed, you didn't show in Savannah, Hanna, no you off and go, you stiff me for that Carolina, Hanna, now my heart be broke. I sang, meet me in Savannah, Hanna, make my heart atwirl. begged, meet me in Savannah, Hanna, set your winds awhirl. But you only brought me pain, sweet Hanna; nasty naughty girl. © 2008 Kåre Enga [165.248] 2008-09-05 I wrote the above at some ungodly hour of the morning when I woke up and couldn't sleep. I also started on: I like Ike, I like Ike, Tricky Dicky makes me sickly; but, I like Ike. ME: I heard Hipólito Rafael Chacón's presentation re A.J. Gibson's architecture. Gibson was building here in Missoula in 1890-1909 (they needed a lot rebuilt after a major fire) I told him that his architecture (turrets, porches, bay windows) reminded me of the grand homes along Richmond Avenue in Buffalo (but less grand). Missoula was a rustic town and Gibson brought ideas from Chicago and east here. Some of his buildings are now landmarks: Main Hall at U.M. and Missoula County Courthouse among them. Then I went to an exhibit opening of faculty artists (painting, sculpture, an installation of paper clothes on a line) where I saw this ab-fab copper wire dress. It looked like a wedding dress. I met Susan Sampson (poet from Michigan's UP) and commented how great she'd look in it (complementing her own copper hair!) even after the wire turned a verdigris. We then spoke with the artist, Catherine Mallory. She's working on a series of these dresses. Her eyes lit up when I mentioned the program Project Runway. She'd really like to show them off! Afterwards I talked about my experience of writing poems about artworks. I should go back to the gallery and write some, I figure! Montana: 48º at 10:00. 7698 |
