Golden showers
Golden showers
for Emily
Maple Sugar Daddy sheds his finery,
unraveling to moonlit clarity,
the chill of mountain air
strips flesh from bone.
Soon skeletons
will scrape against this pewter dome,
as Autumn's gloom, once gold's been showered,
settles in around us like a Russian Blue;
once bound, it purrs until the breakup of green ice;
come spring, it's sprung anew.
For those of us who crawl upon this earth,
we low-life peons,
it's from the golden showers's revolution's given birth,
through all the eons.
