Exploring the future through the present. One day at a time. |
Part of the fun of keeping a blog is thinking up a creative title for each entry. I succeed about 60% of the time. The rest, Dull City. As far as that goes, most people don't care. They're more interested in the meat of the entry anyway. But when I hit the sweet spot of the creative crystal in my brain, I can't help but listen to it sing its perfect little notes. Take today's title for instance. Snooze. Not much there. No matter, because for my entry in my other blog ( http://www.almarquardt.com/blog ), I hit that perfect note. I titled the entry "Pitch Me Out The Window." Titles serve two purposes: To describe the subject in a few words, and to tantalize people to read further. I'm willing to bet you're curious about what I meant by the title. You might wonder if I'm thinking of suicide, or merely expressing my frustration over something. First option, not happening. Second option, sort of. It's a play on words. One aspect of language I love (and hate at times) is how one word can mean so many things. In this instance, though I'm using 'pitch' as a verb for the title, for the entry, I'm using the noun meaning (and no, not the sticky stuff on pine trees). To find out exactly what I meant, you'll have to check it out. Writing intrigued me for as long as I can remember. I see words as puzzle pieces, but pieces that are mercurial. Each piece, each word can be placed in an infinite order, and even with my limited vocabulary, the picture I end up with is often a complete surprise. Now a question: How do you see words? |
