To an emerald
To an emerald
They glisten like rhinestones
spare flesh on bone
properly pressed and elegant.
We sit in awe impressed
by weaves of words
opaque, obscure.
All meaning wrapped in packing paper,
mete and metaphor.
They flash advanced degrees and magazines
that have printed for posterity
the record of their misery.
We applaud their plumb.Yet,
what piece of paper can disprove this truth:
their over-polished lumps of coal
have no more worth than you.
Parris had a short story that I absolutely loved! The final image of him standing by his cabin barefoot in the virgin snow was perfect. His lyricism in "jars containing summer" shows his poetic side.
... and we had cherry cream pie.
I read a recent poem, but I wasn't happy with it. May have been my mood.
One sad note: Frances' old dog Tweetie passed on the 10th. She'll be in mourning for awhile.
