Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
Vireos at dawn Vireos and their cousins sing in stereo; redbirds chirp the rhythm; woodhens drum the beat. They meet upon the edge of meadows where deer greet each dusk and dawn their spotted fawns protected from ticks the turkeys gobble from among acorns. Vireos berate the sleepy-eyed in stereo with their wake-up song. © 2004 Kåre Enga [160.1027] 2004-03-19 I went looking through an old red notepad ... this is from Spring 2004 when I was content and living in Oklahoma. I'm sure I was up at Sparrow Hawk Ridge above the river Illinois, just outside of Tahlequah. The deer and turkey intermingled with humans up there as there was no hunting allowed. The ticks were bad though ... caw caw caw = blaw blaw blaw: The highlight of the day was seeing a murder of crows and a flock of small birds. I went walking in a direction I normally don't, south of the university. I mostly stayed to myself. I even soaked by myself in a tub of patchouli bubblebath last night. My cold is improving but lingering. MILLSTONES and MILESTONES: To print a small booklet of poems in the next couple weeks I need to organize what I have around a theme and choose (like when I did Gzaibun #1). Unfortunately, nothing around my port is properly organized nor up-to-date. I have over 445 "sketches" since last Spring 1st and have a 'book' (like a blog) for them here; yesterday I managed to set it up to number 300 (a third are entered). It takes much more work than it seems. By April it would be nice to have a year of sketches (about 500 total) entered and mildly edited. Wish me luck on this. Montana: 31º at 10:00 12,055 |
