"Those Old Childhood Memories"
                                    Old Childhood Memories

                                Almost fifty years have past

Still I drift back in time

                                As though if just yesterday

                                In the backyard raising mischief

                                Those old childhood memories

Playing kick the can next door

Sneaking up to touch the captive

                                Tapping his or her shoulder

Yelling “All ye All ye All free”

                                Those old childhood memories

Suiting up for the big ball Game

You’re big chance to be a hero

After the game whether win or lose

A treat to a  root beer float at A&W

                                  Those old childhood memories

The girl next door can she play ball

Good god she kissed me “yuck”

For the next few weeks I hide

Still though my guard is up

                                    Those old childhood memories

Saturday mornings a job to be had

My paper route must be completed

                                    The customers anxiously waiting

They greet me normally with a smile

                                    Those old childhood memories

Let’s not forget that first puff

As I pawed through the garbage

At last I find my mom’s stale butt

As I light it I begin to gag and cough

                                    Those old childhood memories

                                    Christmas morning Santa did come

Looking for that one special gift

At first disappointed not finding it

Then at the last moment it appears

                                    Those old childhood memories

                                    Saturday nights watching Hogan Heroes

Eating fresh popcorn and drinking soda

Then Pop arrives and I surrender the TV

For the next hour it is Mitch Miller

                                    Those old childhood memories

On and on with memories I could go

The past is one we should never forget

Today and the Future are ones priorities

                                      Those old childhood memories
