Twenty eyes stared at them. They had entered into an enormous stone chamber. In the center stood a round table made of polished silver, were ten beings in bleached hooded robes sat. In the middle of the table was a gaping hole from which floated a translucent glass sphere. Sometimes the Sphere would spin and scenes would flicker across its surface. “What is the meaning of this?” questioned one man as he stood and lowered his hood revealing a wizened old face. He stared at them with piercing blue eyes. “We were summoned, sir,” replied Everly. “Summoned to a council of the Redeemers, absurd!” he replied coldly. The room began to hum with the councilmen’s chatter. Everly picked up the now dormant necklace and handed it to the Redeemer who had spoken. His eyes widened in shock as he stared at the object in his hand. All talking ceased and every man stood and lowered his hood. “Wha…where…where did you get this?” he demanded. “It is impossible, this belongs to a Delator!” One who has been missing for many years. Everly's gray eyes shone too bright for just a split second as she stared at the man. Skye stood in the corner of the room watching her. “But Daniel, I have always had it,” said Everly. “I was told it was the only thing I wore when I was found wandering the Distant Echoes. Lately it has started doing odd things, things a necklace shouldn’t.” “My name, I never gave it to you, how did you know my name?” “I don’t know, I just knew it.” “Ah, you must be a Seer then. It would be best if you kept your…ability secret during these perilous times. "Perilous times?" Skye questioned as those words finally drew his attention away from her eyes to the robed being next to her. "REM has been in a state of upheaval since the crowning of our latest OverLord." explained Daniel. "It seems our dear Remulus is not as well liked as he thought he was and there are many who suspect him of having something to do with the murder or our last ruler. Nothing was ever proved, of course," he added. "Remulus loathes the use of magyk. Probably because he hasn't any of his own. He believes it is a sign of evil in a person and he will not hesistate to lock you up if he sees signs of it in you. You as a Seer would be in more danger than most, since you would know all there was to know about him just by seeing him, and he would know of your power by the shining of your eyes. |
