Prologue
“Are you going away for good? Are you never coming back?” petulant, she pursed her tiny lips and stared at him with her big dark eyes.

“Of course I’m coming back! Cause we gotta get married, see? I got this ring, I paid for it myself!” he proudly held up a cheap gold band which had her cheeks dimpling in.

“We’re goanna get married?” she tilted her head to the side, her braids fell to the side

“Yep! So here” he pushed it at her, her chubby little fingers grabbed a hold of it, wonder twinkling in her eyes, “Now you gots to be faithful only to me, okay? So you can’t look at no other boys, say it” he snapped

“I promise” she giggled, “and you can’t look at other girls too” she nibbled her bottom lip, “even if they’re really pretty” she frowned

         “Reeeeally really pretty?”

“Like beautiful pretty, you gots to come back to me” she looked at him, deep in thought as if not sure what to say…

“Um..okay” he grinned, “so we promise to get married when get grown up”

“Honey! Come on, its time to go, say go bye now” His mom’s voice called out to him, he glanced back at her then turned and dropped a kiss on her lips, shocked she stared as he ran to his mother laughing.  She smiled wide and turned to see her own mother at the door grinning at her

“Come inside now sweetie” she looked at her mom, then heard the sound of engines, turned and ran after the black Mercedes, emotions that her young mind and heart couldn’t understand filled her.  She stood there clutching her tiny hands together, nails biting deep into her palm, biting her lip so hard tears came to her eyes, or at least that was the only reason she could fathom why she would cry.  After all, he had said he was coming back for…but then again, being young didn’t mean she was stupid…chances of her seeing him again were slim.  Who could trust the words of a 5 years old to a 4 years old?
