Lady Liberty
I wrote a poem yesterday for CountryMom's contest ~
~ Lady Liberty ~
On July 4th. her crown reopens again,
Lighting the path, Lady Liberty will reign.
A symbol of freedom from slavery,
This monumental display of bravery.
She welcomes visitor and immigrant.
New York Harbor's colossal attendant.
Raised right foot, broken shackles proving,
Her Liberty remains forever moving.
This gift from the people of France,
In recognition of friendship did enhance,
And enlighten freedom and democracy,
As opposed to tyranny and aristocracy.
Her torch signifies enlightment within.
"Broken shackels" constitute the win.
She stands tall for all the world to see,
Reminding all of us that freedom isn't free.
