Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
I just came from a wonderful performance of Koritsia from Lund, Sweden. They opened with a yoik http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoik then sang more traditional songs. They then sent two out into the back of the theatre, two at the front sides, the others front and middle and sang what I swear was a kulning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulning The high pitches and volume were stunning. They proceeded with three of Shakespeare's sonnets set to music. They ended with a "curse" of hisses and laughter and... well, it was unexpected and riveting. Karin Fagius must work very hard with these 16-20 year old women to get out of them what she does. I even liked the way they sang themselves off stage. An article with picture: http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2009/07/17/news/mtregional/news06.txt I can now tell AL that I heard this world renowned group sing. I wouldn't be surprised if she or her children know members of the group. In fact, I'd be more surprised if they didn't. Above Nevada Roads wiggle through this sand parched land, dried nematodes connecting emptiness. Across the vastness of the West, I soar: touching clouds, craving salt, a fossil begging rest. © Kåre Enga [166.138] 2009.07.16 Montana: 79°, calm and sunny. Gonna be a warm one!
