The Grossblank and Iambic Hexameter
I Am Good Enough

When did I start thinking I was not good enough?
When did I start believing this notion was true?
At what age did I accept this lie as a fact?

I remember my mother encouraging me
To do my best, to push my limits, to become
My true self and develop my special talents.

“You are not good enough!” Did not come from Mom’s mouth,
Where did I hear, “Nothing I ever do is good
Enough!” Who spoke those words to me when I was young?

Perhaps it is time to change my self-talk and say,
“I am good enough!” I am a dual natured
Creature; God gave me both a body and a soul.

Line count: 12
Form: The Grossblank and Iambic Hexameter, created by Larry Gross, is a nonce form. The Grossblank and Iambic Hexameter is composed of 12 line of blank verse each with 12 syllables per line instead of 10. This form is 12 lines of unrhymed iambic meter in any format. One way to write this form is to set the scene or state the problem or preposition in the first 9 line and then in the last 3 line state the conclusion, a contrast, or comment. Of course, that is up to the individual poet. A nonce means “for the one time” and it is a poetry form with a pattern or meter by itself. An IAMBIC HEXAMETER line is composed of 12 syllables using an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable.
