Finding the Correct Bellhousing Bingo! I got a call from Jack Meyers in Oshkosh and he said he had the components to link the flat head to my transmission. I made an appointment to meet him at 3 O’clock today as Oshkosh is only about an hour and a half from my farm. The components were a bell housing, housing adaptor and clutch arm. We had to take the car for servicing to Portage and Linda is thinking about a new Taurus. After lunch we set out and found the place. Jack is a plumber with a passion for flat head engines. He also builds street rods and his garage is fantastic. He has a ’39 Ford Coupe as well as several other old school rods in various stages of development. His shop was a veritable clearing house of old Flat Head engines and the components for building them. He had one on a test stand that had been raffled off at one of the local club meets that was beautiful. I bought the components he had for me and he promised to dig out an old four hole radiator and some fenders for a ‘40 ford. I have an extra body that I might try and do something with. I am thinking about getting him to do an engine for me. I came home inspired and tried the parts on the engine I am tearing down. The fit and I am now a step closer to completing the drive train. I picked the engine up with the tractor and set it on the test stand. Tomorrow I plan to make the brackets to hold up the back and maybe drop the oil pan before I attempt to get the valves out. Once the pan and valves are removed I can flip it over and see if the crank is in one piece. If it is I will begin removing the pistons. I am more and more drawn to the idea of buying the S-10 blazer and marrying it with the Studebaker body. I’ll need to take a picture and write an article and see if I can sell it to one of the street rod publications. |
