ME: I left Orosi after 5 days and spent a night at El Tranquilo. Not sure how tranquilo a backpackers paradise is! BUT, it was great. I got to call my mother and aunt, friends in Montana and California, even reached Gary at work. All for free. So... as I mentioned at Space Hook... if you want a postcard or a phone call you need to leave me a message. Private won't work here at WDC as my email box is stuffed to 100% and I'm too lazy to choose and dump old messages. So send my info at enga@ymail.com or a private message at FB. I got three takers already! El Tranquilo also had free wifi, coffee and pancakes for breakfast. I highly recommend it. I've met fellow travelers from the US (few), Venezuela, Canada, Austria, Australia, Germany (lots) and Holland (lots). I'm using English too much... Woe is me. I may go to the beach tomorrow. The tourists are starting to arrive and within a week the beaches may be over-run with semi-naked maggots (as in ...white ...needing some sun). After 3 days they should be strawberry-don't-touch-me-ouch. I'm not eating much and will hopefully lose some weight. Not enough to make me expose myself though... LOL. I'll return here to Perez Zeledon next Friday/Saturday for the big fiesta and tope. At ¢7.000/night (humble room but private, shared bath, hot water!) it's a good bargain ...right on the square. In dollars? About $14. I'm doing well with my money. I'm spending about $11/night for lodging which is excellent (but probably not sustainable) and maybe $26/day total. That will change too, but my goal is $12/night for lodging and $30- 40/daily total. So far, so good! If at the end I average $30 per day I'll consider myself blessed. Keeping costs down is essential on my income. I should blog more. It's fun! But there are other things to do in "Paradise" (which Costa Rica is not). Warm ...until it rains. 20,725 |
