What you wont see in the Movies |
You have every girls dream job and every boy's wet fantasy. You are Wonder Woman. I don't think the NBC executives will appreciate the role model Wonder Woman has become. They only look to their advertisers. Sigh. If you have the time to research the Comic history go to Wikipedia.org. The violent origin of the Amazons is not for a G-Rated audience. They were escaping the enslavement of men. This angered the God Aries, who sent Hercules to beat them into submission. Hercules could not overpower the Amazons on the battlefield. The Queen of the Amazons Hippolyta offered a truce. Her Amazons made a feast for Hercules and his army. Hercules drugged the wine and raped Hippolyta, bringing her back to Athens in chains along with her Amazons. This is the unhappy story of Wonder Woman's mother, Queen Hippolyta. Hippolyta beg her Goddess Athena to free her Amazons from bondage. Athena answered her prayer by placing the Amazons on the isle of Themyscia, which holds the gate way to Hades. Athena made Queen Hippolyta swear never to retaliate against Hercules for Aries would make war on Olympus. Hippolyta broke her promise and chained Hercules. Athena banished the Amazons to Themyscia where they could never know man or bare children. They would remain immortal as long as they remained on Themyscia. Hippolyta begged Athena for a daughter. Athena told Hippolyta to form a baby from the clay of Themyscia and a soul would enter it from Hades' limbo. It was the soul of the unborn child Hippolyta had lost when she was a mortal woman. Hippolyta called her daughter Diana. Diana would be the envoy to the mortal world. She was not mortal and not bound by the enchantment of Athena's banishment. Queen Hippolyta knew that their island would be discovered by men and Diana would be their protector. |
