A paper clip four by two. |
Kay and I spent an unhappy night. Kay wasn't the responsible kind, but she was a woman at war, a soldier and one of us. "We gotta stick together," Kay said, "And that doesn't mean walking out on a partner because she's done something silly. Gee, if I could lay my hands on that guy! It sure burns me up!" That evening Kay and I spent our absence passes looking for the little squirt. We hadn't passed the sentry a few yards when Kay turned to me and said, "Were a couple of dopes. This is a plain case of find the prick in the haystack." "I laughed." and as we turned about machine gun fire broke from the sky. Kay fell into my arms as we tumbled into a trench. "We can't go back! They'll shoot us!" I sobbed. "Please let me go Doris oh, please!" Kay's face was wet with tears, but I couldn't let go of her; not in this hail of gun fire. "Put a sock in it! Kay! Were staying put!" I barked. Kay panted on my face. I could see every line in her red lipstick. It started to rain. A pool of muddy water seeped into our panties. "Oh, pooh." I smirked, "This is my best dress skirt." Kay made a silent toothy laugh. She pushed her mouth into mine. "Will put you on milk and honey, sweet pie." Kay leered. Night had fallen and the sky was a light with bomb blasts. No one can know how they will react. I just loved Kay more than my husband. We peeled off our stockings and dress uniforms and loved like pigs in mud. An antiaircraft gunnery roared nearby. "A girl ought not do that." shouted a soldier, "But ain't it pretty." It was the squirt that took advantage of Kay at the PX. A bomb went up like a fire fountain half a mile away. "You know them?" shouted another soldier. "Of course I do. I was going to marry the red head." the squirt laughed and whistled us to get in the truck. We had no time to dress. With only blankets on our backs, we faced our commander at base camp. "It was a big raid. You need a bit of powder for your nose?" Puffed the commander. He was looking for something to write us up for. One doesn't talk about such things. We gut KP duty for disorderly conduct under fire. I think I love Kay more than my husband. ??? |
