Eyes dim as age approaches ...for Rosemary

Eyes dim as age approaches

         for Rosemary

Eyes dim as age approaches
daunting details begin to fade.
There's beauty in those wavy lines,
these blending colors, is all she'll say.
Rosemary smiles at her younger self,
nods that all will turn out fine.
Beauty of life is in the living,
the daily loving that once defined
what soon shall be but memories:
lilac of a distant dawn,
echo of a playmate's laughter,
the thin smooth edge of skipping stones,
wrinkled soft suede leather,

and the sharp release of onion on the tongue.

All fades to grey when darkness comes,
then blooms forth in a blaze of might.
It's not my sight I miss, she whispers,
it's just a wistful longing
for a young girl's timeless time.
