-Chapter 4-

Andre was looking in his mirror.

He sometimes despised himself, for how his life had been recently, but most of all he’d despised God. If it wasn’t for God would things be the way they were now? No. The answer was simple, no. The answer was right in front of him. NO. NO. No. He cursed then punched the mirror. There were cracks streaming down it and fresh blood dripping down his balled fist.

“Andre!” Laine yelled. “What do you think you’re…”

         Then she was silent.

Andre spun, “What Laine, what are you saying?” There were footsteps, if she was walking why wasn’t she speaking to him, assuring him that he was safe. It was the end of the world though, she was probably trying to scare him. Andre searched his room for a weapon. There was nothing; his laptop he definitely wasn’t going to use for a weapon. He then examined a blue covered book with a black haired boy on the front of it. He then grasped the book and examined the cover of the big blue novel. He held it tightly in his hands thanking the author for creating such a book full of pointless words. (No It wasn’t a Dictionary.)

         The footsteps drew closer.

Andre staggered backwards with the book in his hands, holding it tightly making no sudden movement to alert the intruder. The intruder’s eyes locked on his. Andre couldn’t move, he was frozen in the familiarity. And then Andre was taken down in a second with a pain in his shoulder.

         More blood.

         More pain.

He saw the gun twirling in his father’s hands. “Jeff…I swear I’ll…” He said to himself.

And then he said nothing else.

Adrianna never felt better.

She was in the hospital now, suddenly things were starting to change in front of her eyes. Her family was there, looking her in the eyes asking her what happened. Asking her how everything was going with the gash on her head. But she was ignoring them. Thinking that there was something bigger going on in the world.

She knew what it was, but she wasn’t going to admit that she was wrong here. It wasn’t her place to say who was right and who was wrong. She just wanted to know that everything in her life was going to get better from here on out. And even if it didn’t she knew that Matt would be there for her sooner or later.

He knew what was going on.

He knew that she was in trouble; he knew that she couldn’t stay out of trouble without him. And now here she was in a hospital bed wondering where Matt was. Wondering why he hadn’t shown his face in Greenville.

Austin was only four hours away.

“Ms. Starr.”  The Doctor said talking to Adrianna. “Unfortunately we are out of medical supplies for such a mediocre wound. We cannot help you here.”

Adrianna’s family wasn’t happy about it.

The Doctor approached her violently ripping the IV out of her arm. A mixture of blood and morphine now covered her arm. The clear drug was seeping out of the small puncture wound. Now the pain in her forehead was coming back. She wanted to scream now. But she knew Matt wouldn’t like that, she knew Matt wouldn’t want her to scream. He would want her to be strong. .

“Doctor?” A familiar boy with long red hair and glasses asked. “Doctor, there is something wrong.”

The Doctor spun holding the needle up into the air stopping the morphine from dripping out of the needle. “Doctor, please you have to help me.” He pleaded. “Doctor please!”

The Doctor was looking at him now.

The Red head slammed his fist into the Doctor’s jaw then smirked at Adrianna, “I’m no Doctor, but I’m sure I can help you out here. Now let’s get the morphine back into your arm. I’ll call Matt and tell him what’s going on.”

         “Dillon.” She said.

He smiled, “You know Matt is going to be pretty pissed off at whoever hurt you.”

         “Dillon.” She said again.

         “I’ll give him a call.”

         “Don’t call Matt…” Adrianna said.

         “Why not?” Dillon asked.

The Doctor was staggering to his feet rubbing his jaw. Dillon had to move fast, Adrianna didn’t want him to call Matt, but he knew he was going to. He knew that he had to escape, lead the police on a wild goose chase to wherever he wanted to take them. Probably the woods behind the Christian school off Joe Ramsey.

“I think we’re in trouble.” She said.

Dillon smiled again, it was one of those smiles that assured safety, Dillon was a free runner, a dare devil so to speak and now he was going to be dared to show the world exactly who he was and how good he was at running.

“No” Dillon replied. “I’m in trouble.”

Dillon dashed out of Adrianna’s room, hospital security had their weapons drawn. The chaos was just now beginning and Dillon was already into trouble. He knew Matt would find a way out of the trouble, but getting a hold of Matt would be next to impossible.

Dillon froze feeling a cold metal barrel press against the back of his head. “Don’t move kid.” He said. “I am not afraid to fire.”

         “Who are you?” Dillon asked.

“Just go with the plan.” He replied.

Dillon was in trouble, there was no plan, he knew how everything was going to end. How it was all going to be so troublesome. But then he felt a single ray of hope as he heard a plane flying low.

There were screams from all around the hospital. Dillon jabbed his shoulder into his attacker’s ribs then spun snatching the gun out of his hands.

“Don’t move.” Dillon hissed. “I know how to use this.”

         Now he had the advantage.

Dillon was going to be the one that could save Adrianna for his best friend’s sake. For Matt’s sake he would protect Adrianna from whoever was coming for her.

         Even if it was…himself.
