Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
...April fools! ME: Thunder does not equal rain. Although, it did seem more promising today and there must've been rain to the east of here, possibly to the west and north as well. East bodes well for our water shortage. Only off 3 hours today. So I did an evening wash. Everything will dry when the sun comes up at 6. Need to focus better on my language and writing goals. This week will be quiet in some ways as Thursday and Friday most everything will be closed. Time to get something done. Still, I've only been here 5 days so I won't get down on myself. Goals this week: 1. Buy food. Restaurants will be closed so I won't get my pinto. No prob, but I keep very little food in the house because I usually don't have to. 2. Go to the bank ...soon. I have enough money. Again no prob. But will banks be open? And will the ATMs run out? 3. Get on a bus and go somewhere ...before Thursday. A day trip should do. 4. Set up Norwegian language goals so I have a clue what I need to do. Want to complete Level 1 at least. I have six weeks. 5. Buy a twin mattress and sheets. I'll host a couchsurfer at some point. May as well be ready now. 6. Buy plants. I'm here 5 months so it makes sense to buy now so I can enjoy them. 7. Set WDC goals. Life can be boring. Here, that means I've hit a groove. I clean. I go to market. I stop in and say hello to folks I know. I talk to most everyone. I know how to do this. I'm not a visitor. I live here! For what that's worth and for however long. It's different when I'm traveling/visiting. England was such a pleasant once-in-a-lifetime experience! Ab-fab to say the least. Costa Rica? It's my home for now. I watch TV (not used to that) and follow the local football team. Tomorrow night they play against the Santos. Win and they will be in the playoffs and almost have 1st place wrapped up. Tomorrow night my alma mater, Kansas plays Kentucky. Win and they are national champions in men's basketball. I suspect I'll watch both games. Tuesday there is something going on in the writing community. Need to find what, where and the exact hour. This is how I will stay un-bored. That and noting whatever there is to note at those quiet moments. I sat in the main church today. Wrote a "religious" poem in Spanish. When I'm here mostly I write in Spanish. On the way back saw the father of a friend who sells kites. There is a poem there as well some day. And I nearly fainted while bending over to check out the price of a 2 liter bottle of orange juice (¢1.035 = $2 = not bad). But no panic as I know about my blood pressure meds (must remember to bend at the knees). One last note: My personal journal has reached a milestone. I'm on page 3,001. Have a pleasant night. 28.497 |
