The Truth About John F. Kennedy Okay so everyone has heard the rumors of conspiracies surrounding John Kennedy's assassination, and even the assassination of his brother Robert; but what most people don't know is that while he was an intelligent and calculating individual with the qualities required of a good president, he was also riddled with problems health wise. The man faced his own demons and went on to fight the demons of others and of this country as well. Prior to John's election into presidency, he and Richard Nixon were good friends who supported one another in their politics. Whenever Richard caught flack for his stance on a particular subject, John would soon come to his aide and support the stance, as they shared very similar beliefs. At least in the beginning, that's how it was. The wedge that was driven between the two's relationship was the 1960 presidential election where they were pitted against one another in campaign and debates. There were even rumors spread by the opposing party that John was a sick man in an effort to weaken his hold over the American people. Once again though, John, his family and closest friends and associates were able to conceal this fact. It did not come out until later on that John suffered from Addison's Disease which had been linked to the hypothyroidism. He appears to be so awkwardly tall and skinny in his early years because his adrenal glands had not been working properly for the majority of his life. Once the medical community had caught up with their technologies and treatments, they were able to pump him with steroids and other medicines which helped him put the weight on that he had fought so desperately to keep his entire life. But that is not the only health problem John had faced in his life. While he was still in school, he was told by doctors at the Mayo clinic that he had cancer. That's right! President JFK was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1935. He also had accumulated a series of other problems along the way such as anemia, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and the list goes on and on to include injuries he received from football to his military service. Despite all of these problems, he still managed to set a standard long before his election. John F. Kennedy went on to win the election against Nixon and face the treacherous conflict with Russia. Other cool facts about/surrounding JFK: Richard Nixon claimed that the secret tape recordings of conversations in the White House were not his idea, but had already been installed by JFK and his team. Kennedy was not the first president to record conversations in the White House. The first president to begin this type of recording was Franklin D. Roosevelt. Eisenhower and Lyndon B. Johnson had also followed this tradition. Nixon has been accused of and suggested to have involvement in the assassinations and the assassination attempts of the Kennedys. Who would have thought that John and Richard once on good terms and supporting each other would ultimately end with contempt and envy? Come on now, guys. This is politics we are talking about here. Loyalty just isn't something you see anymore. Neither is the truth. Kennedy is claimed to have had an ongoing relationship with a woman who had actually been suspected of being a spy. Her name was Inga Arvad. She was Adolf Hitler's "companion" in 1936 at the Olympics. In 1941 she met JFK while he was still serving in the Navy, where they had begun their relationship. Even Edgar J. Hoover was a bit suspicious (as he always is of everyone else) and had hoped to take advantage of this little fact to have JFK removed from the military. In 1942 though, JFK was sent to South Carolina and shoved behind a desk, which one can only assume was punishment for his transgressions the previous year with the Danish journalist, and the relationship had been ended as quickly as it began. But here is the interesting part of it all, JFK was well aware of all this information and still continued his relationship for nearly a year with Inga. |
