I travel the country on business, sometimes the world. Come see where I've been. |
Had a wonderful day today. Visited the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I've been to a few around the country; but being the tallest, and 142 years old, this was a must for me. It's 257 steps to the top, or so the Park Ranger will tell you. But by the time I reached the top, I'd swear there were 1,000! The view from the top is tremendous. Of course, getting down was pretty easy, much easier than going up. I was amazed that this thing was moved from it's original setting in 1999. That feat in itself is a wonder of Engineering. After returning to the motel, I went to the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. Talk about an Engineering achievement! Of course, they were the first men to achieve powered flight. Their first flight on December 17th 1903 lasted 12 seconds, and went about 120 feet. They did four flights that day, each one longer, with the last one being 852 feet. Each of them took turns flying their aircraft (named Flyer), Orville getting to go first since he won the coin toss to decide who would fly first. Tomorrow it's off to Hamilton New Jersey for a week. I hope you all have as nice a week as I will. ** Image ID #1875522 Unavailable ** Jim Dorrell |
