Online journal capturing the moment and the memory of moments. A meadow meditation. |
In this day and age where texting seems to be all the rage, do you think this practice has improved or broken down the lines of personal communication and why? It's a convenience that limits communication to symbols that are quicker than letters but without the personal touch, just as phone-calling limits it to voice without video, just as video cannot include taste, smell or touch. Although virtual relationships can become real at some point it has to be more than texting or twitter. It needs to be personal. Blogging comes to mind, but that has obvious limits well-known to bloggers. Personal is best done in person where one can smell, touch, hear, taste and see a person. Mere symbols do not make a conversation any more than genetic strands make a person. There must be something more. Texting may be convenient, but it isn't something more. To truly answer the question: No. Texting hasn't diminished personal communication unless it is used in place of personal communication. Still, texting does not have the power to enhance it. Used as a tool it's fine. But that's all it is. So, I should ask you... would you rather be texted or hugged? Silly question isn't it... 67,957 |
