My response to the December 1 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" by Emily ~ What is your favorite December tradition? I don't think I have a favorite December tradition anymore. When I was a child my favorite December tradition was Christmas dinner and diving over town to look at the houses decorated for Christmas. As I grew up, these changed. Mom and I eventually stopped celebrating Christmas, but we never stopped celebrating my birthday, December 24, and we still drove around to see the Christmas lights. We stopped driving around to see the Christmas lights when Mom health begin to deteriorate, but we still went out to eat on my birthday. We stopped going out to eat on my birthday a couple of years ago when Mom physical and emotional health deteriorated even more due to the Alzheimer's disease. We still celebrated birthdays, but we did it at home. This year, Mom is not around to help celebrate my birthday so I have to find a new December birthday tradition. I don't want to stay home and celebrate my birthday. I don't know if I want to go to the restaurant where Mom and I always celebrated my birthday or find a new restaurant. I would like to keep or go back to some of the traditions Mom and I did in December before she became too ill to enjoy them. I just don't know what to go back to and what traditions I want to let fall by the wayside. December 24 is still twenty-three days away, so I have a bit of time before I need to decide how I want to celebrate my birthday. I will celebrate my birthday, but I will do it alone this year. I'll just have to see how everything works out between now and December 24, maybe I'll find a new restaurant or do something else entirely. |
