Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills. |
ME: I go through cycles of learning. I obviously do some things well. Also obviously I do some things poorly. And I do not seem to be able to make linear progress nor do I necessarily hold on to my gains. It's a side-shuffle and two steps forward, one back. Frustrating. That said I'm doing well. Didn't do much today after yesterday's tiring trip. Did get to market for some good food! Also, checked out belts. This town is known for milk, cheese and leather. Mooooo. Also bought soap for washing. May stay here a few days. Climate is "soft" = cool, misty ...good for grass ...and cows. $11/day at the Hotel Cristal may convince me. Plus I could do side trips instead of packing-un-packing every day. Market town means cheap food prices. Non-tourist agricultural small town means safe. Which gets back to my first comment. Duh. I've thought this before. So: Zarcero, Sucre, Aguas Zarcas and La Fortuna are possibilities. Are are Naranjo, Guatuso, La Virgen, Vara Blanca, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí. Los Chiles would be a stretch unless I took a very early bus (04:30; 05:30; 06:30; 08:00) and came back on a late one (15:00; 16:00; 17:45). I'm tempted. A bit of time on the bus but I wouldn't have to drag my stuff or look for lodging. I did this in Turrialba but not to this extent. We'll see. Other key cities to sit my butt in? San José is obvious but I must consider Alajuela and Heredia. Liberia would be good. Puntarenas or San Ramón is a possibility. 31 days gone ...54 more to go... Oh... and money? Averaging $26/day. My budget is $30/day so I'm $120 under budget. A tour ...or that $20 belt I looked at ...is tempting and within budget. 38.822 |
